based on the passages i read from red mars, two places came to mind – utah and oregon. my favorite description was of the cliff – resembling in my mind, a less verdant crater lake. mountainous terrain, cliffs and volcanic activity. it couldnt get much better…unless i was camping at crater right now.
so i stuck to my guns for once on a project. i took the topo map and did a rough copy in autocad – assigned elevations – which took a LOT longer and slightly more tedious than i realized. But really, why is autocad so awesome. that civ3d program can kiss it taking so long to do anything, but plain ol’ autocad served its purpose. i finally made some sense of it in 3d max – had a heyday with it. or is it hayday. nonetheless, here’s where i landed. literally and figuratively.

nice craters.
